Brimfield Bests Boston With Facebook Fan Numbers

Chief David Oliver and Jim McIntyre

Brimfield, Ohio police chief David Oliver has a way with words.  He put a bunch of them together in a book, titled No Mopes Allowed, and subtitled A Small Town Police Chief Rants and Babbles About Hugs and High Fives, Meth Busts, Internet Celebrity and Other Adventures.

Chief Oliver explains he and his department gained notoriety when they took to Facebook to communicate with the township's 12,000 or so residents in his inimitable way. The number of people who "like" the department's Facebook page is approaching 140,000 as of this writing. Only the New York City police department has more "likes."  Chief Oliver says Brimfield has surpassed the Boston Police Department for the number of Facebook page "likes."

He has been called an "internet sensation," and embraces the moniker with his tongue planted in his cheek.
