Michael Medved Previews "Getting Back on Track" Event With Texas Governor Rick Perry in Westlake

Afternoon host Michael Medved is coming to Cleveland, as part of AM 1420 The Answer's event, "Getting Back on Track 2014." He and Texas Governor Rick Perry will discuss issues pertinent to the political scene as the midterm elections approach, and look ahead to the 2016 presidential campaign.

Media Influence on Public Opinion Panel Discussion

There's a panel discussion about how the media influences public opinion at The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Wednesday, November 20 at 7:00pm.  It's in conjunction with the run of this world premiere exhibit. AM 1420 11th Hour host Jim McIntyre will be joined by Thor Wasbotten, Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kent State University, and Brennan Donnellan, News Director at WKYC Channel 3. The panel will be moderated by Cool Cleveland founder Thomas Mulready.

Alfred Dreyfus was a French soldier who was wrongly convicted of spying more than 100 years ago. Media coverage contributed largely to the public's perception of Drefus' guilt, according to Director of Education and Public Programming at the Maltz Museum, Jill Rembrandt.  She says the Dreyfus Affair is still "relevant in a million different ways."  

Career Day With Arts and Culture Organizations Planned

An Arts and Culture Career Day is coming up on November 7th at Severance Hall.  The mission of NOCHE focuses equally on higher education and business, according to Associate Director Shawn Brown, with an internship program (NEO Intern) and the Northeast Ohio Talent Dividend, to encourage students to complete their college degrees.

The "Linking Talent to Opportunity"  Career Day event will feature opportunities for job seekers in a variety of professions to meet face to face with representatives of organizations like The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the Cleveland Children's Museum, and Salem Communications Cleveland.

Local Author Patricia Averbach Writes Her First Novel

Patricia Averbach is a local author and poet who has written her first novel.  Painting Bridges is a moving story about a young widow and her struggle to move past the recent loss of her husband and young daughter.

The story centers around a relationship the woman develops with a young deaf girl who resembles the daughter she lost.  It was intentionally set in the time just before public schools were required to provide special education to children with challenges.

Patricia is a trained speech pathologist and a former director of the Chautauqua Writer's Center, where she says she got her inspiration to write the novel.  The setting moves between small-town western New York state and Cleveland.  Patricia is working on a second novel which will also feature Cleveland as part of its setting.

Lis Wiehl Finishes The East Salem Trilogy With Fatal Tide

Author Lis Wiehl is a former prosecutor, law professor and Fox News legal analyst who writes a copious amount of fiction on the side.  Her latest book, Fatal Tide, is the third in the East Salem trilogy of books set in a small fictitious Connecticut town filled will evil.  

In this interview with Jim, Lis talks about the Seymour Avenue case, the Washington Navy Yard shootings, and Aaron Hernandez, the football player accused of murder, in addition to discussing her books.

To Sing Frogs: An International Adoption Story

John Simmons and his wife Amy went to Russia to adopt a child.  They wound up with six.  To Sing Frogs is the book he wrote about their journey, including the incredible bureaucracy involved in adopting children overseas, along with the incredible rewards associated with international adoption.

The parents of special needs children can get help planning for the futures of their families from Steve Thompson of the Skylight Financial Group.  He explains how parents have to cover a variety of needs, and how his special needs planning team can help.

The United Way Sets 2013 Goal: $42.5 Million

The United Way of Greater Cleveland kicked off this year's campaign with its traditional Pancake Flip on Public Square August 29, 2013.  This year's goal is $42,500,000.  Last year, the campaign exceeded the $41,000,000 goal by more than $400,000.
